Assalāmu ‘Alaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh,

Tonight, the VRIC community will come face to face with those seeking to assume positions of leadership — positions that carry spiritual weight, moral responsibility, and accountability before Allāh. But before any of you stand before the community to introduce your “vision,” your “plans,” or your “platforms,” there is a heavier question that must be answered:

Are you prepared to uphold justice?

Or will you simply inherit — and continue — a legacy of silence, concealment, and complicity?

Because VRIC does not merely face bureaucratic dysfunction. It faces a moral crisis — one documented, witnessed, and felt across this community.

Five brothers — five different individuals — have now come forward with allegations against Imām Yaser Birjas, including a case just two months ago involving an 18-year-old teenager. These were not whispers. These were not rumors. These were detailed, corroborated, and evidence-based testimonies. And yet, the institution you hope to represent has responded with a pattern so consistent, so rehearsed, that it has become a defining feature of VRIC:

Silence. Deflection. Concealment. Protection of the accused. Punishment of the truth-teller.

The previous boards did not seek truth. They sought convenience.

They did not seek justice. They sought to protect an image.

They did not shield the oppressed. They shielded the transgressor.

Their refusal to investigate, their coordinated attempts to bury evidence, and their willingness to punish those who spoke up is not new — and it is not forgotten.

I myself was banned unjustly — without explanation, without evidence, without due process — simply for bringing forth what every believer should: truth. VRIC leadership chose to exile a community member rather than confront the wrongdoing of one man. And in doing so, they turned the House of Allāh into a corporation, the masjid into an institution of politics, and the community’s trust into collateral.

Let each of you be reminded:

Never in the time of the Prophet ﷺ or the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn were people turned away from the masjid.

Not even the hypocrites — whose identities were known — were barred from entering.

Yet VRIC bans those who seek justice while protecting those accused of deception.

As candidates, you are inheriting not a title — but a test.

  • A test of your sincerity.
  • A test of your courage.
  • A test of whether leadership, for you, is a pathway to serve or merely a badge to display.

And tonight’s Meet & Greet will reveal exactly who among you understands that accountability is not optional — it is foundational.

Before the community places their trust in you, each of you must answer:

Is VRIC a House of Allāh?

Or a corporate machine disguised as a religious center?

Because if it is truly a House of Allāh, then you must explain why those who seek justice are silenced and punished — and why those accused of harming others are shielded.

If you were innocent:

  • Would you refuse a conversation?
  • Would you hide from an investigation?
  • Would you run from accountability?
  • Would you go silent when confronted with evidence?

Only the wrongdoer — and those who cover up for him — fear scrutiny.

So the question before each candidate is simple:

Will you stand for justice?

Or will you become another pawn in a system built on evasion and cover-up?

Will you defend the oppressed?

Or will you defend a transgressor?

Know this: By Allāh, each one of you will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment.

  • For what you knew.
  • For what you ignored.
  • For the harm you perpetuated through silence.

Ittaqullāh. Fear Allāh.

Do not become another name on the list of those who failed their community in its time of moral need.

And to those who remain silent in the face of injustice: You are complicit. Know that your silence does not absolve you. It only binds you to the oppressors. A day will come when truth will prevail, and every deed — hidden or exposed — will be brought to account.

“And never think that Allāh is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].”

Sūrah Ibrāhīm (14:42)

May Allāh bring justice to those who have been wronged and expose those who have betrayed their trust. Allāhumma Āmīn!

Until justice is served,

Br. Salman — banned by VRIC for exposing the lies and slander spread by both Yaser Birjas and Omar Suleiman and the coverups by VRIC leadership, refusing to investigate any and all allegations, despite definitive and indisputable evidences (multiple testimonies, Irving Police, FBI, US Department of Justice)

Co-Signed by:

  • Dr. Abu Ayah — exposed Yaser Birjas’ violations of Islamic custody laws (going against the ijmā’, centuries of scholarly consensus), encouragement of un-Islamic practices, and bias against fathers
  • Dr. Abdullah — exposed Yaser Birjas’ unprofessional counseling, unethical court testimony, and negligent recommendations that endangered children
  • Dr. Jamal — revealed Yaser Birjas’ negligence in premarital counseling, breach of confidentiality, unverified allegations, and distortion of Islamic principles
  • Br. Musa — retaliated against and unlawfully manhandled at the instruction of Yaser Birjas, after he approached him seeking clarification and accountability.

Questions for the Candidates

  1. Will you commit, publicly and on record tonight, to an independent investigation into the five allegations against Yaser Birjas? Yes or no?
(If no, why are you running for a position that requires moral accountability?)
  2. Do you believe someone accused by multiple individuals, supported by evidence, should continue to hold religious authority without investigation?
  3. Do you believe VRIC has a moral obligation to protect the community — including youth — from potential harm?
  4. Do you believe banning community members who bring forth evidence is Islamically justified? Provide your dalīl.
  5. Can you name one instance in the Seerah or the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn era where someone seeking justice was banned from the masjid or retaliated against?
  6. If elected, will you commit to a transparent process for handling complaints against leadership — including the imām?
  7. If VRIC leadership is found to have concealed wrongdoing, will you support removing those responsible from their positions?
  8. Do you believe loyalty to the truth comes before loyalty to individuals? If yes, why have you remained silent until now?
  9. Will you pledge tonight that no one — regardless of status, title, or position — will ever again be above scrutiny at VRIC?
  10. What specific steps will you implement in your first 90 days to restore trust that past boards have shattered?
